1. What is Aflac? Aflac is a supplemental insurance that is meant to help you cover your deductibles, copays, and out of pocket expenses associated with a serious injury or illness.
2. Are insurance policies sold on a voluntary basis? Yes, there is absolutely no cost to you as an employer. Aflac is completely voluntary.
3. How do my employees pay for this insurance? This insurance is payroll deducted which allows your employees to access a group rate at between 40 and 50% off of what an individual would pay.
4. Isn't is a lot of extra work for my human resources department? Absolutely not. Once an employee signs up for a policy his/her rates are locked in and they will stay locked in at that rate for as long as they would like to keep them.
5. What is my employee is no longer employeed with me? Aflac will send them a letter at home asking them if they would like to keep their policy at the exact same rate they locked it in through your company.
6. What kinds of different plans do you offer? We offer an Accident plan that covers any injury to your body 24 hours a day on or off the job. We offer a Sickness policy that basically covers doctors visits, initial hospitalization, and surgerys. We have a phenomenal Cancer plan that is rated number one by the American Cancer Society. We have many other great products as well including Short Term Disability, Hospital, Specified Health Event (heart attack, stroke, end stage renal failure, third degree burns) and we offer dental, vision, and life insurance.
7. What if my employee makes a claim. Will they raise the rates or cancel him/her? No, once a policyholder locks in their rate it will never increase, and it is guaranteed renewable for life.
8. Can these policies be bought on an individual basis? Yes, absolutely they can. It is about a 40-50% increase in price, although well worth it at any cost. Short Term Disability is our only product that can only be signed up for through payroll deduction. It is offered this way because Short Term Disability is basically just an insurance for your income. A good question to ask yourself is,"Can you or your employees live without your/their paycheck?" If you/they can than they absolutely do not need it. If you/they can't then you/they absolutely need something coming in when a catastrophic situation occurs in their family.
9. Does disability cover pregnancy? Yes! It covers 6 weeks vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a cesarean.
10. What about all of the taxes I will have to match if I add this to my benefit package? All of our policies with the exception of Short Term Disability (It's considered an income and you don't want to pay taxes on it when you receive it) and Life Insurance are all pre-taxed. We set up a cafeteria Plan free of charge that allows you to get the pre-tax benefits. This can save you up to 3% of your payroll taxes throughout the year!
